March Full Moon

Another beautiful Full Moon tonight and it is truly a sign that Spring is on  its way! This moon is known as the Worm Moon. It was first believed that it was because the ground was thawing and worms began to emerge from the earth - but more research has figured that the “worm” is actually beetle larvae! This creates a lot of food for the local birds such as Eagles, Geese and Crows - and some native groups use those names instead.

This is a special kind of moon as it is the last full moon of Winter called the Lenten Moon. This is because it is before the Spring Equinox. If it is after it is referred to as a Paschal Moon.  The word Lenten means Spring in the Germanic language. 🪱🪱🪱
